Achi Shrine(tsurugatayama Park) Enshrining Kurashiki's slmighty deity, Achi Shrine offers a glorious view of bygone warehouses.Each step is made of a single piece of granite, which is rarely seen in Japan. As a shrine garden,this is the oldest in Japan, and is called an "IWASAKA". The branches of this rare variety of wistaria "Akebonofuji" , a pale pink Japanese wistaria said to be 500 years old, stretch out in a 20 meter radius.It is the bigest wistaria of its type in Japan, and in 1956 was designated as a Natural Monument of Okayama. The wistaria is also the flower of the city of Kurashiki. |
